ATEED, along with a senior industry group, have developed and launched Destination AKL 2025 – a new strategy for Auckland’s visitor economy. The launch was held on May 11 at the ASB Waterfront Theatre to a selected gathering of civic leaders and industry leaders from Auckland’s visitor industry.
Invited speakers included the Minister of Tourism Hon Kelvin Davis, Mayor of Auckland Phil Goff and ATEED CEO Nick Hill, along with a panel made up of representatives from the senior leaders group, chaired by Martin Snedden. Assembled guests were given a summary and the thinking behind Destination AKL 2025, a strategy about creating sustainable growth in Auckland’s tourism leading up to 2025 and to be led by ATEED, the wider Auckland Council group and industry leaders.
ATEED’s GM Destination, Steve Armitage, introduced the strategy and supported the presentation with a video produced by local company, Omnicron Productions. The video’s creative concept including filming local children giving their innocent and humorous perspective about Auckland and its future, and interspliced with interviews with leaders from Auckland’s visitor sector.
“We selected Omnicron to develop an engaging creative idea that worked for a diverse audience including those from the visitor sector, politicians and the public. It wasn’t an easy brief and we had challenging logistics to shoot more than 10 civic and industry leaders in just two days. The Omnicron team worked really well with us in developing a great creative and managing the production well within a tight deadline.”
